The Future
The First Line » Devlog
So it's been out for a few days, and I've already gotten quite a bit of feedback. From people crashing out over it being too difficult, to very well thought out critiques. I'd like to think most people enjoyed it.
So I'm writing down what they said I should change, and if I decide to come back to this game after the jam, then I'll try adding this.
Some of this stuff couldn't be added due to time and unfamiliarity with the engine. I basically wrote the GDD the first day, and then spent 3 days learning the engine before figuring this out.
Things to change
- Music restarting is aggravating. try to make the music loop through resets.
- Player movement is a bit too uncontrollable and jerky. Slow down movement. maybe increase player size.
- Path forward is unclear. add arrows in some sections
- Checkpoints. Enough said.
- Increase window size. I honestly don't really want to do this. But at this point, it would be post jam, and the surprise would be gone.
- increase platform size. Apparently a lot of people have been falling of platforms, I'm probably going to do this.
Things I'm considering
- increasing player size. As above.
- Increasing the coin spacing. The spacing was kinda packed, which lead to some of the platform sizing issues, though i'd put it more on me.
- Making the letters regular, so that every e will be identical.... Maybe just the framework so levels don't become boring.
Feature Creep AKA Extra features that could be added
- A Menu
- More Levels
- Make your Own Levels
- Calligraphy Mode
